Finn Church Aid Americas represents and supports Finn Church Aid (FCA), Finland’s largest development cooperation and humanitarian assistance NGO with more than 70 years of experience in conflict and fragile states throughout Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. FCA works with the poorest people regardless of their religious beliefs, ethnic background, or political conviction.

WHAT WE SUPPORT


FCA focuses operations within the world's most fragile and challenging environments, and supports local communities in three priority areas: right to peace, right to quality education, and right to livelihood. 

PEACE

The best way to achieve positive development and stability is through increased community ownership. Through FCA, we:

  • Facilitate dialogue between right holders and duty bearers.
  • Promote the role of women and traditional and religious leaders in peace processes.
  • Facilitate peace and reconciliation processes training and enables communities in conflict prevention.
  • Engage with international level processes for global impact, and links them to work on the local level.
  • Develop methodologies and guidance supporting consensus-building among UN Member States regarding the Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace.

EDUCATION

Quality education is both a right in itself, and a means of realizing other human rights. Through FCA, we:

  • Advocate for the right to quality education both locally and internationally.
  • Provide safe and environmentally friendly learning environment and quality education in formal and non-formal settings.
  • Provide vocational education especially for women and young people.
  • Secure education for children and young people in fragile environments.
  • Strengthen the quality of education (Teachers without Borders Initiative).
  • Develop Business, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) curriculum.

 

LIVeLIHOOD

Livelihood fosters community participation, inclusion and socio-economic empowerment. Through FCA, we:

  • Develop the capacities and opportunities for viable, profitable enterprise and decent employment for poor women and youth.
  • Assist women in expanding their income generating activities into market-oriented small businesses, securing their access to finance, business development services and appropriate technologies. 
  • Ensure secure and sustainable livelihoods are stabilizing factors in a society and help promote peace.
  • Ensure vocational training graduates have a smooth transition from school to work and to active citizenship.

All development cooperation and humanitarian assistance actions are guided by international human rights standards and principles ensuring equality, non-discrimination, participation, and accountability. FCA is Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) certified and a founding member of ACT Alliance
